In a warm show of island hafa adai and tirow (greetings) spirit, the Northern Mariana Islands extended a special welcome to all visitors during Japan’s recent Golden Week holiday.

As one of the peak vacation periods for travelers from Japan, Golden Week was highly anticipated on the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Marianas Visitors Authority and island entertainers welcomed passengers with shell leis on all regular and charter flights from April 25-May 6, 2009.

MVA also welcomed the Nempo Shinkyo Memorial Group on May 9 for their annual visit to the islands. The 200-member group, lead by Priest Reiho Inayama, conducted their annual ceremony at Banzai Cliff on May 10 in memory of World War II war dead and in support of world peace.

“Golden Week is a perfect opportunity for us to share goodwill with our Japanese visitors by giving them a special welcome,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “It’s a small gesture, but when you see the smiles on their faces, it reminds us that even the smallest gesture can make a difference.” (MVA)
