Palms’ intern is hotdog-eating champ
An intern at Palms Resort Saipan won last Saturday’s hotdog-eating competition at the 11th Annual Taste of the Marianas at the American Memorial Park.
Joshua Cho, a 23-year-old intern from South Korea, finished off three hotdog sandwiches in just over five minutes to beat 14 other contestants.
“I’m still hungry,” joked Cho moments after winning the contest that drew a huge cheering crowd.
He said it was his first time to join a contest like this.
He won the top prize of $50.
Kai Shiano pockted $30 for placing second. The 12-year-old student of Chacha Ocean View said he did not eat before joining the contest.
“I was so hungry,” said Shiano, who gobbled up his three hotdog sandwiches just a few seconds behind the champion.
Tommy Baek, a senior at Marianas High School, placed third after going through a tiebreak against a female competitor. He went home with $20.
All contestants finished off three hotdog sandwiches with catsup and mustard sauce under a limited time of 15 minutes.
The hotdogs and bread used during were donated by Herman’s Bakery.
Next Saturday’s side event of the Taste of the Marianas will be the bartending and juggling competition.
