Numa Numa grabs beach volleyball lead
Numa Numa won two games in Week 2 of the Miller Lite/Monster Energy Drink 4-Person Beach Volleyball League played on the Pacific Islands Club sand court to grab the lead in the 12-team field.
Numa Numa remained unbeaten in four games after topping We’re Here last Tuesday and MHS One Heart last Wednesday.
Typhoon Saito’s strong hits proved to be too much for their foes, while Yumi Sharry and Mika Okubo were steady on defense to keep Numa Numa’s perfect slate.
Week 1 leader Hits for Brains dropped to solo second place, but is the only other team to have an undefeated record (3-0) in the league.
Hits for Brains notched its third win against Grace Christian Academy. Hits for Brains drew points from Luther Taylor, who incidentally played against his GCA schoolmates.
Tied for third with identical 3-1 records are UMESSUPUOUT and Hoof Hearted.
UMESSUPUOUT handed the GCA Eagles back-to-back losses last Wednesday, while Hoof Hearted gained its third win after downing Angry Red Dragon last Thursday.
Angry Dragon holds a 2-2 slate and is in a tie for fifth to sixth place with the Spankers. Angry Dragons won over South Beach behind the strong plays of Dale Robert and Ed Cho before bowing to Hoof Hearted.
After a 0-2 start, Spankers made headway, prevailing in back-to-back games last Thursday. The Jazz Roskow and Tiger Lee-led Spankers first defeated the Plum Smugglers in the second game and completed a sweep with a victory in the third game against We’re Here.
South Beach went 1-for-2 in Week 2 for a tie for seventh to eighth place with Plum Smugglers. After losing to Angry Red Dragon and Plum Smugglers last Tuesday, South Beach recovered win a win against MHS Bobais last Wednesday.
MHS Bobais is the lone team in the league that has yet to win a game. MHS Bobais dropped its first four matches. Its sister team, MHS One Heart, won one of three matches, while GCA and We’re Here had identical 1-3 records.
