Maximo welcomes Filipino mayors, delegates
Philippine Consul General in the CNMI Wilfredo DL. Maximo welcomed Filipino delegates, guests, and participants to the 2nd Annul Pacific Mayors Conference at the Hibiscus Hall of the Fiesta Resort and Spa on opening day, May 14.
Maximo praised the conference for focusing on the positives rather than the negative consequences of the global recession now affecting the region in varying degrees.
“Indeed, we in this sub-section of the Pacific face unprecedented opportunities for further growth and development, not the least through the military buildup in Guam,” he said.
Maximo said it is fitting that participants, who share similar histories and cultures, take advantage of this opportunity to coordinate their activities in the economic, political and socio-cultural spheres to ensure smooth sailing and the eventual success of their various endeavors.
“As the conference gets underway, I am confident that further opportunities for productive collaboration will present themselves,” he said.
A total of 31 municipal officials from four provinces in Central and Southern Luzon, including eight mayors, are in attendance.
