A man’s word

As manager and coaches of the Kagman Lion Hearts we would like to first of all extend our sincere apology for the incident leading to the protest of the first playoff game in the Junior League Division by Ol’Aces, which took place on May 10, 2009.

We take full responsibility and accept whatever decision the board imposes, as we came into this ball game fully aware that one of our players may be in violation of the uniform policy. However, we would like to request that we are given a chance to explain what happened.

Prior to our scheduled game we noticed that one of the players, Aldofo Guillermo Roppul, who replaced one of our other players currently under suspension, was wearing a uniform that had “Kings” instead of “Hearts” on the lettering. Although the color of the uniform is exactly the same, the name printed on the shirt was not. It is for this reason that our head coach, Mr. Wally Emul, spoke to one of the Ol’Aces coaches, Mr. Mark Flores, while the teams were still practicing and agreed that both team would play without disruption by protest because of uniform violation. This conversation took place in the presence of the chief umpire, Mr. Roy Celis. In addition, prior to the game starting, Mr. Tony Flores, manager for Ol’Aces, approached our assistant coach, Mr. Syl Ada, while both teams were already in the dugout areas and informed Mr. Ada that two of his players were wearing pants with faded stripes and requested if both teams could proceed with the game without disruption by protest. Both Mr. Emul and Mr. Ada gave their word that a protest would not be made from their side and requested that the other team reciprocate the same favor, in which both Mr. Mark and Mr. Anthony Flores gave their word that they would proceed without any disruption.

We are responsible for taking the word of the manager and coach from the opposing team. We believed that a “man’s word is a man’s word.” It is very unfortunate that they went back on their word after the game had started. Again, we are deeply sorry to have caused our players, their parents and our fans with such inconvenience and emotional stress.

Your understanding and support are greatly appreciated.
