IT&E Typhoon crushed San Jose Padres, 11-3, to keep the lead in the Major division of the 2009 Tinian Little League Baseball.

Before Wednesday’s game, Typhoon was only half a game ahead of the Pirates with the former having a 9-3 record against the latter’s 9-4 mark. The eight-run win over the Padres helped Typhoon widen its distance a bit against the Pirates. The loss dropped the Padres to a 0-13 slate.

IT&E Typhoon seized control of the game early with a 4-0 lead after the first inning. It failed to score in the second, but recovered in the last three innings, making three runs in the third and two apiece in the fourth and fifth.

IT&E Typhoon’s defense allowed the Padres to score no more than one run in the second, fourth, and sixth inning. Thomas Dela Cruz scored all Padres’ runs, while IT&E Typhoon had six runners reaching home plate.

Before thumping Padres, IT&E Typhoon came from a close 6-5 win over the Pirates on April 25.

Behind 0-2 after one and a half innings, a three-run bottom of the second put IT&E Typhoon back in the game. IT&E Typhoon tallied two more runs in the third to keep the lead, 5-4 and made it a two-run lead after five complete innings, 6-4, with Joseph Mendiola scoring his second run in the fourth.

The Pirates scored two runs apiece in the first and third inning and had a shutout in the second, fourth, and fifth, forcing the team to earn at least two runs to extend the game.

But the Pirates mustered only one run, because after Dominic Sablan nailed the team’s fifth run, IT&E Typhoon’s defense tightened up, beating two runners on first base and pitcher D-Boy Cruz striking out the Pirates’ fifth batter for the third out.
