Clarification about uniform issue
This is in response to the comments made by the manager of the Senior League JETS, Mr. Darren Flores, regarding the protest made by the Lion King manager, Mrs. Dolores Emul, with regard to the JETS not in compliance with the CNMI Little League Baseball Association Local Rules and Regulation, in particular with the uniform violation.
On May 2, 2009, at approximately 4pm the game started with the Lion Kings at bat. In the third inning, the Lion King manager noticed that the pitcher of the JETS was not in proper uniform. At this time, Mrs. Emul informed the chief umpire, Mr. Bob Guerrero, about the improper use of uniform. As per regulation, every manager is responsible for making sure his/her players are wearing their proper uniform during the game. As soon as the chief umpire was informed of this, he immediately called the player who was not wearing the proper uniform with his manager to ask why he was not using his assigned uniform. The player, Tobey Fleming responded, “I forgot it at home.” His response to the question clearly shows that the JETS as a team were not in proper uniform.
Just as soon as the chief umpire confirmed the Lion King manager’s allegation about the uniform violation, he immediately called for an official time out to bring the matter to the board members and the president of the CNMI Little League Association. After their deliberation about the matter, the board with the president Mr. Mike Borja made a decision to award the game to the Lion Kings. On Tuesday evening, May 5, 2009, Mr. Darren Flores stated in his comment on the 6pm news that the uniform used by his player was in fact a factory defect. This is the opposite of what the player actually said when the chief umpire asked him during the game. Mr. Flores also stated that his team does not deserve the loss. His comment had a negative impact on the Lion King’s reputation. The Lion Kings clearly played by the rules and won by the rules. As managers we play a very important role in the game. The rules are made to be abided by each members of the League and have a critical part in every sport.
In Mr. Mike Borja’s comment during the last part of the interview, he mentioned that the Lion King manager protested the game and that all teams wants to climb to the top. As we all know every team’s goal is to be on top but we still need to play fair and by the rules.
