Open govt fuels democracy

In a recent test, survey, nearly half of our government agencies failed to comply with Open Government Act requests. This proved to the public that our government is weak. Randy Brown of HutchNews said, “An open government has power. It fuels democracy.” An open government fuels democracy by allowing citizens to know what is going on. Citizens will then be able to make informed decisions that will affect their community. Active political participation by citizens will then strengthen the government. The CNMI needs a more open government. We need to be watchdogs, scrutinizing everything the government does. We need to know what a government is doing wrong so that we can fix it, and without government transparency, this is impossible.
