Rangers dominate SML statistics

Ford Rangers players are lording it over in the individual statistics released by organizers of the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League Baseball.

As of April 27, Rangers players are on top of four categories and also in the Top 5 or Top 10 of three other departments.

Pete Tomokane leads the league in most doubles with seven, Dave Camacho has the most triples with three, Juan Iguel has scored the most runs with 17, and Benwachi Taisacan is tied with two others in the home run race with one. The Tanapag Falcons’ B.J. Sablan and J.D. Dikito were the only two other players who made a homer so far in the league.

Sablan is also ahead in most RBIs with 13 and in the batting race with his .565 average. The big-hitting Falcons first baseman went 13-for-23 at bat.

Joining him in the Top 10 of the batting race were four Rangers sluggers, one Falcons teammate, two D-9ers players, and one each from the IT&E Young Guns, Rock Steady, and Korean Phoenix.

Sablan’s teammate, Mike Pangelinan, is currently in second place after hitting 13-for-25 for a batting average of .520. D-9ers’ John Acosta occupies the third spot with a batting average of .517 (15-for-29), followed by the Young Guns and the league’s reigning MVP Tyrone Omar, .481 (13-for-29); the Rangers’ Juan Iguel, .466 (14-for-30); D-9ers’ Jeff Tenorio, .461 (10-for-26); the Rangers’ Tomokane, .450 (9-for-22) and Dave Camacho, .441 (15-for-34); Rock Steady’s Byron Kaipat, .440 (11-for-25); and Korean Phoenix’s Jang Jin Hyak, .434 (10-for-23).

The Top 10 leaders in the batting race were based on 22 or more times at bat

In the pitching race, Young Guns’ Harry Nakamura is ahead with his 0.70 ERA. Nakamura pitched in 20 innings and had only two errors. Two of the next four places belong to Rangers pitchers with Dung Tenorio (1.23 ERA) in second, Rock Steady’s Vincent Sablan in third (1.34 ERA), and the Rangers’ Kelvin Kapileo (1.61) and D-9ers’ Mel Sakisat (1.82) in fourth and fifth spot, respectively.

Vincent Sablan has the most strikeouts so far with 34, beating Thomas Joab’s 33, Sakisat’ 26, Choi Hong Kun’s 20, and Nakamura’ s 19.

Pending Friday’s game results, the Rangers are on top of the team standings with a 7-1 slate, followed by Rock Steady (6-2), D-9ers (6-2), Young Guns (4-5), Tanapag Falcons (4-6), O’Connor Tigers (2-6), and Korean Phoenix (0-7).
