Over 300 travel agents and media representatives in Japan recently learned destination details about the tropical Northern Mariana Islands during the annual Marianas Seminar and Workshop conducted by Marianas Visitors Authority.

MVA conducted the seminars in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in April 2009 to promote Saipan, Tinian and Rota by introducing new marketing plans, including upcoming campaigns and events.

“The Marianas Seminar and Workshops are an important opportunity for us to meet face to face with the Japanese professionals who sell and promote our islands,” said MVA Managing Director Perry Tenorio. “While industry trade shows allow us to meet thousands of individuals, this seminar also gives Saipan, Tinian and Rota the undivided attention of attendees and allows us to provide much more detail about the destination.”

The event covered updates about the market, including flight service trends; MVA’s marketing activities, including new flight promotions; and details of various promotional campaign and annual sports events. Updates on new tourism infrastructure such as the Kalabera Cave project and destination enhancements like the upgrades to baseball facilities were also provided. In addition, MVA explained the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program which will take effect on November 28, 2009. Northwest Airlines and Asiana Airlines, which have direct services from Japan to the CNMI, also made presentations.

The event was attended by 152 participants in Tokyo, 91 participants in Osaka, and 108 participants in Nagoya, all cities with direct flights to the Northern Marianas.

Door prizes and complimentary air tickets donated by Northwest Airlines and Asiana Airlines were given as door prizes. Participants came away with renewed enthusiasm for the destination and new product knowledge they can put to use when helping visitors reach Saipan, Tinian and Rota. (MVA)
