Lack of discipline

In Perry Conner’s letter to the editor, he laid all of the blame for poor schools on families and poor old George Bush. The real problem in schools is lack of discipline. Mr. Joe Borja at MHS ran a tight ship and there was a quiet, orderly school where students could learn and teachers could teach!

Last year I taught in a public school where the principal sat in her office and ate candy while the school was a wild jungle. It was the worst year of my teaching career. This year I am teaching at a county alternative school where the students are all dropouts, thrown-outs, pregnant or with babies and those who could not study in a regular school because of the noise and violence. This year is the best year of my career. I took a position that replaced a principal who didn’t believe in discipline. I have established a classroom that is an absolutely “quiet” classroom and this year those “bad “ students have finished twice as many classes as they did last year—and they love the quiet!

Best of all, Mr. Connor, quiet is free! Try it!
