Ticket sales for Pacquiao-Hatton broadcast at World Resort falter
Compared to the previous pay-per-view live feed, ticket sales for Sunday’s Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight at the Saipan World Resort are going at a slower pace this time.
MCV Broadband and hotel management said this could be attributed to several factors like the timing of government payday, the magic of Oscar De La Hoya’s popularity and the global economic crisis.
MCV Broadband’s Mark Birmingham said that during the Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight in December last year, tickets were already sold out days before fight day. There were about 500 who came out to watch that fight.
This time, MCV has come out with 600 tickets.
“The sales are low this time compared to the last fight but we’re still hoping that fans will turn out at the doors on Sunday,” said Birmingham.
The live feed at the huge screen of the Taga Hall for general admission and at the Red Box Sports Bar for VIP will begin around 10:30am with the undercard fights.
The main event will be around 3pm (Saipan time) in Las Vegas.
The price for general admission is $30 and $50 for VIP.
Ronald Sanchez, Saipan World Resort’s Banquet and Restaurant Manager, said they have already sold about 90 percent of the tickets for the VIP Room at the Red Box while only 50 percent for tickets for general admission.
Sanchez said the reason for low sales this time is that it’s not government payday yet.
It would be the seventh pay per view live for MCV Broadband at the hotel and Birmingham assured that the satellite feed would be excellent.
He said they don’t want the people’s ire to turn on them in case of a poor satellite feed during the fight.
MCV will have a dry run today and early tomorrow morning featuring programs of the Philippines giant television network GMA Channel 7.
“It will be pretty fun,” Birmingham said.
He said they expect sponsor Budweiser to give the crowd something to cheer about.
“We can assure that everybody will have a good time,” he said.
