Ol’Aces repeat over Aztecs
Ol’Aces repeated their mastery over Aztecs, 12-7, Tuesday night and seized the solo lead in the Big League Division of the 2009 Saipan Little League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
Juan Iguel went 3-for-3 with runs in the bottom of the third and sixth, as he pitched the Ol’Aces in six and a half innings, allowing seven hits, two walks, two hit by pitch, and seven runs.
Iguel struck out only three batters, but the Ol’Aces displayed a team effort in defense for their fifth win in seven starts.
Dane Lisua walked in his first at bat, but went 2-for-3 in his next plate appearances.
Lisua joined three other teammates with two runs, Iguel, Simeon Nepaial, and Mike Borja
It was Ol’Aces’ second victory over Team Aztecs this year following a similar 17-5 win in their first encounter last March 31.
The Aztecs failed to sustain a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and suffered their fourth defeat in six outings.
John Wilson was perfect at bat for Team Aztecs, hitting 4-for-4 and scored three times.
Nick Muna also went 4-for-4 for the Aztecs with two runs.
Joe Aldan started for the Aztecs on the mound and was relieved by Nick Cruz in the bottom of the second after giving up four consecutive walks and allowing a run with one out.
With the bases loaded, Cruz allowed three hits and three runs before getting the third out.
Then in the bottom third, Ol’Aces exploded with six more runs for a 10-3 lead on the way to the win.
Cruz struck out four batters but gave up seven hits and walked two.
Ol’Aces’ next assignment will be on May 5 against the Hustlers, whom they defeated in the first round, 11-1, last March 12.
On the other hand, the Aztecs will face the Tanapag Falcons on April 30.
The Falcons were running second with 4-2 win-loss mark before their game last night against the Hustlers.
