The NMI Council for the Humanities re-elected Dr. Debra T. Cabrera to a second term as board chair during a quarterly board meeting held on April 16.

Cabrera, who is the dean of Academic Programs and Services at the Northern Marianas College, has served on the Council’s board since September 2005. She was first elected board chair in April 2008.

The board also elected Charles P. Reyes, Jr. as vice chair and William R. Barrineau as secretary/treasurer.

Reyes, who joined the board in May 2008, is Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s public information and protocol officer. He is one of three gubernatorial appointees on the Council’s 13-member board.

Barrineau is a retired educator and former Humanities Council executive director, a position he held for nearly 10 years. He will be serving his second term as the Council’s secretary/treasurer.

The Council is a private, non-profit corporation with 501 (C) (3) tax status that was established in 1991. It provides a variety of educational initiatives and humanities programs to lifelong learners in the community.
