Where are the displays?
While on my little three-day vacation on Saipan last week, I decided to take my grandmother to the American Memorial Park Museum in Garapan, as she has never visited it before. The last visit I took to the museum was back in September of last year, and since we have nothing like American Memorial Park here on Guam, I was quite impressed by it. But last week, I was disappointed to see that most of the items in the display cases in the museum were removed. A sign on the display case read that the items were removed because the museum raised the temperature of the air conditioning system due to the rising cost of power on Saipan, and because of this, they removed them before the temperature change causes the items to deteriorate.
This is sad. The American Memorial Park Museum is one of the nicest, if not the nicest museum in all of Micronesia. And to see most of the items showcasing Saipan’s past gone is saddening. Something should be done to put the items back where it belongs. I also read on the sign that the items are here in Guam and at the CNMI museum.
AMP sits in the heart of Garapan’s tourist district and I am sure that at least 99.9 percent of tourists that visit the museum wonder where are all the relics. MVA and the CNMI government need to fix this problem ASAP.
