[B]Student applicants sought for Korea trip[/B]

Applications are being accepted from students between the age of 9 to 12 who are interested to participate in the upcoming JCI Student Exchange Program to be held in Seoul, Korea, from May 11 to 16, 2009. Anyone interested may come to the Saipan Mayor’s Office and pick up an application form, Monday to Friday, from 7:30am to 11:30am and from 12:30pm to 4pm. Saipan Mayor Juan Borja Tudela announced yesterday the availability of funds under the Mayor’s Utility Assistance Program to help qualified residents pay for one month of their power bill. This is a federally funded program available to residents of the Municipality of Saipan who are unable to pay for their power bill to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. All residents whose power bill is under their name are eligible to apply. Application forms can be picked up at the Saipan Mayor’s Office in Afetnas Square in San Antonio during regular working hours, Monday to Friday, between 7:30am to 11am and 12:30pm to 4pm. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B] [B]Ribbon cutting ceremony for Navy housing units [/B] [B]SANTA RITA, Guam[/B]—A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled today, April 16, at Apra View housing on U.S. Naval Base Guam to commemorate the completion of 24 brand new housing units for military service members and their families.

The $43.2 million construction project, which was awarded to Guam-based Black Construction Company in April 2007, includes the demolition of 61 old units and the new construction of 55 replacement units.

“This is an exciting time for the Navy on Guam,” said Rear Adm. William French, commander of Joint Region Marianas. “The new homes speak volumes of the strides that we continue to make toward ensuring that Guam is recognized as a first-class duty destination for Sailors and their families.”[B][I] (PR)[/I][/B] [B]Kagman High PTSA meeting set[/B]

The Commonwealth Ports Authority informs the public that the CPA field at the airport is available to all free of charge. However, before anyone can use the field, it must be reserved with the CPA. Any unreserved activities are not permitted and must clear the entire field without demand for the reserved activity. Everyone’s cooperation is requested and appreciated.

[B]Brilliant Star School sets free presentation[/B]

The Brilliant Star School is offering a Parent Discovery Evening in place of its regular open house, as part of efforts to share what a Brilliant Star education is.

The presentation, titled “What is Elementary?” will be held Thursday, April 16, 6:30pm. This will be another dynamic evening that will preview the Elementary learning experience. Attendees may invite friends.

What to expect:

-A presentation of the 5th cosmic fable: The Story of Numbers.

-Examples of how we teach time management and the balancing of work choices

-Record keeping and assessment

-How we address classroom management

-Child work examples

-The characteristics of the 6-12 aged child, such as what changes you can expect in them as they grow, and how to support their development.

Brilliant Star School provides education for children 12 months to 12 years old. This special Parent Discovery Evening focusing on Elementary Education is open to the public.
