The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3457 donated 25 Easter baskets to patients, guests and nurses at the Commonwealth Health Center on Saturday.

VFW Post 3457 commander Mariano Fajardo said the donation is part of their community relations project.

He said at the time of the donation, there were six patients in the pediatric unit.

“So the rest were donated to the maternity ward for the mothers of newborns. The others were donated to the families of patients we saw at the hospital,” he said in an interview.

The remaining Easter baskets were given out to the nurse station, he added.

In related news, the VFW Post 3457 will have a new commander in June.

“After successive one-year term for three years I will be stepping down,” said Fajardo, who was stationed in South Korea from 1987 to 1992.

Replacing him will be Larry Deleon Guerrero, who coordinated the Easter basket donation.
