The Commonwealth Board of Nurse Examiners on Capital Hill has temporarily halted its operation because it is in the process of relocating to the new Department of Public Health building in Garapan.

Bertha P. Camacho, chairperson of the nursing board, yesterday said their office on Capital Hill is “so dilapidated and needs major renovation” at this point.

“It is not an option to continue staying at the current site because of hazard and health issues…The board is currently relocating and the board may not resume regular and full operations until the second week of April,” Camacho told Saipan Tribune.

However, the relocation to the new DPH building adjacent to the Human Resources Department is also “temporary,” citing the need for adequate space and personnel to provide maximum service, including the processing of hundreds of applications monthly.

“Because the board is a regulatory agency, it really needs to function separate from any other organization or agency and not be a part of the hospital,” Camacho added.

Nurses who need to get applications or other forms are asked to download the forms at www.nmicbne.com.

Not only is the board currently packing up things and moving them, but also currently does not have computer connection.

The nursing board is tasked with regulating nurses’ professional accreditation and with giving them the approvals they need to work in hospitals elsewhere in the United States.
