A plea for forgiveness and comfort
To all the teenagers in the CNMI: Please, let’s all learn from others who had made mistakes (bad judgment; not paying attention; or just being “ignorant” by being careless and not thinking clearly at all). Whatever happened to the phrase “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk”? Did we stop caring about each other? Are you truly a dear and caring person? If so, then please don’t let anybody drive drunk, regardless of age, sex, or ethnicity of a person. We have to start caring and remind each and every individuals that we care—by taking their car keys away, offering to drop them home, or making an attempt to contact their family members to have someone pick him/her up.
Unfortunately, an accident happened in the early morning of April 1, 2009. Prior to the accident, four young men called one another—they were close friends and former classmates—and decided to go to a party and eventually they continued to party at the beach. It was after 3am when they finally decided that they had enough. They hopped on a mini-truck and drove to Dandan. They picked up another friend to drop the rest of the boys at their homes. Less than three minutes after they left the house, the unfortunate accident happened, leaving one friend dead, one friend seriously injured, and three friends with minor injuries.
My son was the driver of that tragic and terrible accident, and he will have to live with what happened to his friend “Cinto” for the rest of his life. He will never forget what happened. My family and I also carry the weight of the loss of my son’s friend.
We will continue to pray for my son’s friend and may the Lord have mercy on his soul, as we continue to pray for comfort for the family of his late friend “Cinto.” To our family, friends and the CNMI community, I humbly ask for your prayers and support for the parents and family of the late Anicento Teregeyo Taitano. To the family and friends of the survivors, please help us by praying to our Creator for forgiveness and comfort in our hearts and in our thoughts. Si Yu’us Ma’ase and may God bless us all.
