‘Land is the basis of culture’
To Sen. Frica Pangelinan: We are disappointed and dismayed with your statements before the Saipan Chamber of Commerce that local culture “is a myth. ” This, in our opinion, is highly disrespectful of your fellow Chamorros and Carolinians, your constituents. Land is the basis and the root of culture and tradition is precious and significant in value and meaning in terms of our identity as Chamorros and Carolinians.
What have you done, senator? Why is it that since you were elected into office you had not done anything to help our people? Please enlighten us with the many laws you authored and had passed benefiting our indigenous people.
In our view you have done nothing but support self-interest agendas and an administration that will go down in our history books as the one that drove our own people to greener pastures abroad, endangered public services, and led our people into poverty.
While you live a high standard of living, you continue to insult and make a mockery of the less fortunate individuals and families who are now struggling from decades of incompetence, corruption, and self-interest agendas of elected leaders.
Rather than sitting around wasting taxpayers’ time and campaigning to abolish Article 12 you should be drafting legislation to instill stringent protection of Article 12 for the sake of our future generations.
The only change needed in our homeland is to get rid off incompetent lawmakers who no longer represent our people.
