Teen arrested for DUI, eluding cop; 2 detained
A male juvenile was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and engaging a police officer in a car chase, while his two teenage passengers were also detained for consuming alcohol.
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the 17-year-old boy, who was driving a pickup truck, was arrested for DUI, minor consuming alcohol, reckless driving, and eluding a police officer.
Ogumoro said two male passengers, both 19 years old, were booked and detained at the Department of Corrections.
Ogumoro said that, on Thursday at 1:25am, as a traffic DUI police officer was conducting highway enforcement on Beach Road, he saw a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck traveling north at high speed.
The truck overtook three other vehicles by using the center lane. This prompted the officer to chase the vehicle.
Ogumoro said the vehicle stopped outside a house in Garapan. The three teens were found inside the vehicle.
Patrol officers later arrived at the scene to assist the DUI officer.
After submitting to breathalyzer test, officers determined that the juvenile driver’s breath alcohol concentration level was .17 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent.
The 17-year-old boy was released to the Division of Youth Services.
