Fans witnessed one of the closest games this season in the Junior Division of the Saipan Little League as the Patriots beat Ol’Aces, 10-9, last Saturday.

It was the Patriots’ fourth straight win, as the team regained the division lead with eight wins against a single loss.

The win also avenged the Patriots’ 3-7 defeat to Ol’Aces last March 7, their lone loss in nine matches.

The Patriots struggled in the early goings, rallying from a 2-6 deficit with four runs on four hits and two walks in the bottom of the third that tied the count at 6-6.

Five more hits, three walks, and a hit by pitch produced two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth and the Patriots were in front 10-6.

Ol’Aces were heading for a repeat of their victory in the two teams’ first meeting by coming in with three consecutive runs out of four hits and two walks in the top of the seventh.

Thyse Tutiy drove John Santy home, Frankie Camacho also scored on a Shane Deleon Guerrero triple and the latter made the game’s last run on a single by Lamark Iguel.

That spirited comeback chopped the Patriots’ lead to just a single run with two outs in the inning.

Reliever Jared Sablan went for the third out on an easy catch for a fly out against Ol’Aces’ last batter Jacob Flores.

Starting pitcher Christian Mizer struck out five batters and gave up seven hits and two walks.

Iguel allowed six hits, three walks, and issued eight strikeouts before reliever Jake Santos came to the mound in the fifth inning.

The Lion Heart followed their win with a 10-0 mercy rule-shortened victory over the Red Sox on Sunday and the Lion Heart are now 4-3 while the Red Sox are 3-5.
