Hopwood finally nailed its first win against Saipan Mayor’s Office, 15-14, Tuesday night in the Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League at the Capital Hill Ballpark.

Behind by three runs going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Hopwood rallied with four runs with two outs to snap an 18-game losing skid.

It was Hopwoods’ last game of the regular season and the win prevented a total shutout.

Lerins Tamtreng scored on Alex Sablan’s single, Sablan followed suit on another Marco Palacios’ single, while Dominic Tudela reached home on a walk by Tim Williams.

Ronald Gabionza hit a single that drove Frank Angel home for the clincher.

Hopwood (1-18) finished last among 20 teams and joined 10 other teams that are out of the playoff round, including Mayor’s Office (4-15).

Tamtreng went 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBIs, a triple, and a double and Sablan was 3-for-4 and had two RBIs, two runs, a triple, and a double.

Wally Emul led the Mayor’s Office on 4-for-4 at bat, with three runs, five RBIs, and a triple, as his team completed its regular season assignment with 4-15 win-loss record.

The Beach Boys tightened their grip of solo second place in the playoff round by crushing Commonwealth Ports Authority, 11-3.

CPA tied Joeten Motor Jets with similar 13-6 records.

PSS 14, POI 9

Public School System closed out the season with a 7-11 record by defeating POI Aviation, 14-9.

Shortstop Kyle Kaipat sizzled with two homeruns on 3-for-4 at bat with five RBIs, three runs, and a double, as PSS dealt POI its ninth loss in 18 games.

But POI is already in the playoffs even if it drops its last regular season assignment against Freedom Air.
