Some things to consider

Honey production would be year-round, an advantage over areas with four seasons where honey is not produced during the winter and extra honey must be left in the hives for bee food during the times of the year when there is no pollination going on.

* Isolated location makes it easier to avoid the conditions that may be responsible for CCD.

* The local island pollens make a high quality tasty honey.

* For self-reliance purposes, a single-home beehive would produce delicious honeycomb snacks, as well as pollinate fruit trees and flowers.

* Commercial production could open up opportunities for large-scale fruit orchards and/or other farming ventures that would benefit from pollination from bees.
