The Dragons held off a last-ditch rally by the Little Lions to score an 8-7 win in the Major Division of the 2009 Saipan Little League last Sunday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Ballfield.

Jonathan Cabrera hit a three-run homerun to give his team an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

But Cabrera, who was the Dragons’ starting pitcher, allowed three consecutive runs by Catalina Dela Cruz, Cedric Ada, and Francisco Palacios in the sixth.

All three reached home plate via base on balls and the Lions moved to within a run of the Dragons’ lead with one out.

Cabrera took the second out on June Malite before he was relieved by Nathan Camacho.

Camacho gave up another walk to Joseph Taitano Jr. and the bases were loaded, but the former struck out Justin Santos for the victory and the Dragons posted their fifth win in seven games.

The Little Lions suffered back-to-back losses and are now at 4-3.
