The gubernatorial tandem of former governor Juan N. Babauta and Galvin Deleon Guerrero wants absentee voters to participate in the upcoming NMI Republican Party primary for the November polls.

In a joint statement, Babauta and Deleon Guerrero said the team will submit a request to party officials to consider the petition of off-island families to join in the primary, set on June 27.

“There have been many inquiries from families and friends of off-island voters and from the off-island voters themselves whether they would be allowed to vote in the upcoming Republican [Party] primary election on June 27. The primary is an important election as it will decide the GOP candidates for governor and lt. governor in the November general election,” it read.

The two expressed their full support and extending the right to vote in the primary to all eligible off-island voters. They too must be included in the decision-making process.

“[We] will submit a request to party officials to consider such inquiries and to explore all options possible, to the extent practical, to allow our off-island voters to have a say in the primary election,” they added.

The activity may require additional cost for the party, but they believe the activity is worth the money and the effort.

“To the extent we can be all inclusive, the better,” they said.

NMI Republican Party chairman Ed Tenorio yesterday declined to give a statement on the issue, saying a meeting will be called to discuss the matter next week.
