Leadoff batter Juan Iguel had a perfect offensive night as Ford Rangers ran over the Tigers, 25-11, Wednesday night in the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Iguel’s first five at bats were all hits—two doubles, two singles, and one triple. He advanced to first in his sixth try and the centerfielder scored six runs, the first player to accomplish the feat in a single game this season.

With the win, the Rangers broke a four-way tie and seized the solo lead with a 4-1 card.

Iguel and the rest of the team scored at will as they registered a total of 24 hits, six doubles, and four triples in six and a half innings.

Roy Celis and Pete Teigita had three runs each and their teammates also contributed well in a one-sided affair that exacted the Tigers its fourth straight setback for a 1-4 win-loss record.

The Rangers scored six runs three times (third, fifth, and sixth inning) as they completed the win via mercy rule.

With the score at 19-4, starting pitcher Dung Tenorio was rested in the fifth inning and the Rangers needed two relievers to come home with the win.

The Tigers scored four runs in the top of sixth as four of their batters reached first on base on balls.

That forced the Rangers to pull Franco Flores from the mound in lieu of Greg Sanchez, who allowed five runs, two hits, three walks in one and two third innings to beat the Tigers.

Sanchez also finished with two runs.

The Rangers’ last assignment for the first round of the regular season will be against the Tanapag Falcons on April 1.

The last time these two teams met was in the semifinals last year with the Rangers winning and in the process grabbed the second finals berth.

The Falcons are also on a rampage, winning their last three games of the year after losing their debut against D-9ers.

The Falcons played against defending champion Rock Steady last night, but results were not available as of press time. Rock Steady, Falcons, and D-9ers are tied with 3-1 win-loss cards.
