NMITF holds Olympic distance race tomorrow
Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation will hold an Olympic-distance triathlon tomorrow, March 28, at Paupau Beach.
This event will serve as one of the tune-up races for local triathletes who are preparing for the upcoming Saipan XTERRA Championship and Tagaman Triathlon next month.
This will be the third triathlon event to be staged since January following two Enticer races.
Tomorrow’s event will consist of a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 10-km.
NMITF said that participants who wish to do the half-distance course could only do one lap for each stage.
The swim stage will be held in the Paupau lagoon, while the bike portion will be via the Bird Island Lookout and the Grotto with the run covering the part north of Paupau.
Organizers are still determining the distance for the bike stage.
Registration will start at 6:30am and the race will kick off at 7am.
Mike Johnson of NMITF said they need volunteers to help direct traffic and handle time listing during the event.
“I need people to direct traffic at the road entrance and would like to have a couple of water stops. I would also like to have at least one kayak and timers,” said Johnson.
