Runnin’ Rebels dominate statistics
The Runnin’ Rebels individual talents were in full display in the list of final statistical leaders released by organizers of the 2008-2009 BANMI/Budweiser Basketball League.
Forward Sylvan Teregeyo emerged as the top rebounder in the regular season, collaring 105 rebounds in 12 games, while teammates Jose Tumaquip and Ben Lisua ruled the assists and blocks departments.
Teregeyo was one of only two players who collected more than 100 rebounds in the regular season. Ol’Aces’ Gabriel White was the other one, notching 101 boards to settle for second place.
Rounding off the Top 10 were Docomo’s Kelvin Fitial (99), IT&E’s Kae Bernardo (92), Docomo’s Christopher Paul (92), CNMI Nationals’ Marvin Rabauliman, the Runnin’ Rebels’ Ben Lisua (79), Quichocho Law Office’s Bart Demapan (77), Runnin’ Rebels’ Robert Coldeen Jr. (71), and Ol’Aces’ Romeo Iginoef (69).
Tumaquip was the league’s top feeder, recording 58 assists, two more than runner-up Elmer Esdrelon (56) of Diamond Auto Care.
Making it to the Top 10 were the CNMI Nationals’ Joemary Tumaquip (50), IT&E’s Wowie Abuel and Jun Estolas (50), Docomo’s Joseph Villacrusis (47), Quichocho’s Bonbon Cadagat (47), Diamond’s Pando Muleta (46), the Ol’Aces’ Elias Rangamar (45), Diamond’s Brendo Talania 938), and Docomo’ David Palacios (38).
In the blocks department, Lisua swatted 19 shots to edge teammate Coldeen (14), and Docomo’s frontliners Paul (13) and Mel Manibusan (12). In fifth place was Rabauliman with 11 shotblocks.
Completing the Top 10 were the Runnin’ Rebels’ Jerome Denard Norita (10), Docomo’s James Villacrusis (9), IT&E’s Marlon De Dios (8), Quichocho’s Darwin Barbo (7), and Diamond’s Jawn Joyner (6).
As expected, Ol’Aces gunner Freddie Pelisamen ruled the scoring department, earning 383 points in 12 games. This year’s scoring champion was the lone player to have a total of 300-plus points in the regular season.
Cadagat was second in scoring with 265 points, followed by the CNMI Nationals’ Pete Iguel (257), Bernardo (209), Rabauliman (201), Quichocho’s Sonny Lerio (193), Jose Tumaquip (191), Esdrelon (184), the CNMI Nationals’ Jericho Cruz (159), and James Villacrusis (158).
In steals, the CNMI Nationals’ Joemary Tumaquip led the league with his 50. Esdrelon was the second best in steals with 47, followed by the Nationals’ Iguel (42), the Runnin’ Rebels’ Jesus Iguel (39), Rabauliman (35), White (34), Quichocho’s Leo Itaas (32), Diamond’s Muleta (29), Lisua (29), Coldeen (28), and Teregeyo (28).
Ol’Aces guard Rangamar made the most triples with 34, beating Abuel, who converted 33 shots from downtown. Lerio and Esdrelon were tied for third with 32 apiece, while Cadagat completed the Top 5 with 26.
Rounding off the Top 10 were Jose Tumaquip (24), Sonny Ranola (22), the Nationals’ Pete Iguel (17), Coldeen (16), and Jesus Iguel (15).
Lerio, Esdrelon, and Ranola, meanwhile, tied for the most triples made in a game with eight apiece.
