Falcons defang Tigers in rout, 18-8
The Falcons streaked to their third win as they routed the Tigers, 18-8, last Friday in the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
Two homeruns highlighted a 15-hit performance by the Falcons, who are now 3-1 in the company of Rock Steady, Ford Rangers and D-9ers.
The Tigers suffered their third straight setback and are now 1-3.
The Falcons quickly erased a 1-4 deficit after two full innings with five runs in the bottom of the second for a 6-4 lead and strolled to victory after that.
B.J. Sablan hit a two-run homer in third and J.D. Dikito also came up with a two-run, inside-the-park homerun that capped a five-run burst in the fifth inning.
The Falcons surged ahead with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh on the way to creating a four-way tie of the lead.
The Tigers managed four runs of five hits on a one-out count against the Falcons’ reliever Pete Teigita in the top of seventh but hardly changed the result of the match.
After Manny Tenorio’s second run and the Tigers’ last of the game, Mel Martin walked on a low pitch, Bob O’Connor singled on a grounder to left field. and Mabel Ngirngemelas reached base on an error at second that had the bases loaded.
But Teigita let the batters swing their bats and retired Joe Tenorio and Manny Cabrera in succession via flyouts.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jerald Jones scored for the Falcons on a passed ball to start the inning.
After Mike Pangelinan flied out to right field, B.J. Sablan went to first on a base on ball and Leo Dikito clinched the win on a single to left that sent the big slugger home.
Starting pitcher Hans Pua struck out two, walked five, gave up four runs on six hits, and committed three errors after four innings.
J.D. Dikito finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, including a homerun in the fifth.
Designated hitter Mike Pangelinan went 2-for-5, with four runs, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
B.J. Sablan came up with 2-for-2 performance at the plate with two runs, including a two-run homerun in the third.
Henry Iguel came up with three runs, Gerald Jones two, and Martin Norita two.
