Dollar Days banked on its 3-point shooting to cruise to an easy 91-72 playoff win over IT&E in the 2009 Navy Hill Friendship Basketball League Tuesday night at the Gaparan Basketball Court.

The victory moved Dollar Days to the semifinals, joining early qualifiers KFC/Taco Bell, Athlete’s Foot, and Inchcape.

Triples were raining on Dollar Days’ court in the first half, helping the team seize early control of the match. Dollar Days had seven 3-pointers in the first half and nine in the entire game.

Wowie Abuel, Jun Pantaleon, and Bon Tamayo had one triple apiece in the first period, which ended with Dollar Days ahead by nine, 26-17.

The lead ballooned to 16 at halftime, 53-37, as Abuel, Pantaleon, and Tamayo continued to hit from downtown, while big men Bart Demapan and Kae Bernardo took care of business inside.

IT&E’s chances for a major recovery was doomed in the third period when it was held to 10 points with only Glenn Mercurio nailing more than a field goal in that canto.

Dollar Days also slowed down in the third and for the first time did not make a single triple. But Dollar Days still outscored IT&E, 19-10, allowing the former to take a 72-47 lead, entering the final period.

IT&E outgunned Dollar Days in the fourth quarter, 25-19, but it was not enough to lift the former to an upset win.

Dollar Days had six players finishing in double figures. Kae Bernardo fired 17 points, while Tamayo tallied 14, earning nine of them from the 3-point region. Abuel and Ivan De Vero chipped in 13 apiece, Pantaleon had 12, and Demapan drilled 10.

Gil Gapor top-scored for the depleted IT&E with 13 points. IT&E played the first three quarters of the game with only six players before two more joined the team in the fourth period. Leo Factor and Mike Olaitiman contributed 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

The semifinal round will be played tonight with Inchcape facing KFC in the first game and Dollar Days colliding with Athlete’s Foot in the second match.

In the Masters division, the Chalan Kanoa Legends and Shirley’s Coffee Shop resumed their rain-suspended game with the former notching a 95-89 victory.

The Legends-Shirley’s tiff was first played Monday, but was halted with 6:14 left in the third period due to rain. The Legends were ahead, 43-36, when the game was suspended.

Ronald Delos Reyes, who had scored 24 points before the match was stopped, added 14 more to finish with a season-high 38 markers. Jun Tabora chipped in 29 in the Legends first win.

Edwin Arenas paced Shirley’s with 16 points.
