NMC names Tenorio dean of student services
The Northern Marianas College has named a new dean of student services, filling the position held by Daisy Villagomez-Bier who “exited” the college in November last year.
Janice Tenorio succeeded to the position temporarily handled by Leo Pangelinan, who was named acting dean following Bier’s departure.
As college dean, Tenorio is responsible for overseeing various programs and services that include admissions and records, library services, career development programs, student leadership, and federal programs like the Student Support Services, Upward Bound Program and the Educational Talent Search program.
“These are areas that enhance the quality of campus life and promote student development and success,” Tenorio said, adding she’s extremely privileged and excited to be leading this effort.
Last year, Tenorio served as director of Student Support Services, which is part of the Division of Student Services. The Student Support Services is a federally-funded program of the U.S. Department of Education.
The Student Support Services Program serves180 students yearly. It provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their degree. The goal of SSS is to increase the college’s retention and graduation rates and facilitate the process of transition from one level of higher education to the next.
Prior to serving as director for SSS, Tenorio worked as a grant writer and acting grants manager for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. She had also worked extensively for the college, having served as the director of the Office of Admissions and Records office for several years. She had also worked in many other capacities: college registrar, extension coordinator, admissions counselor, and administrative officer.
According to NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez, “Janice’s extensive expertise in higher education and her skills and commitment to NMC students uniquely equip her for her new role here. We expect the programs and services offered to students at the college to grow and flourish under her leadership.”
