Islanders rally past No-Mercy
The Islanders met a stiff challenger in No-Mercy before pulling off an 87-72 juiced out win in the “Gorilla Games” in the World Organized Rocball Community League Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Islanders dropped the first two sets before sweeping the last two to keep their reign in “Gorilla Games” for the fourth straight time. The Islanders three previous victims were Evenflow, Soul Rebels, and Seven Kings.
No-Mercy proved to be the Islanders toughest opposition, as the former nailed a 26-20 win in the opening set. No-Mercy boosted its chances for an upset after a 26-16 victory in the second set.
Going into the third set, No-Mercy was ahead by 15 points, 51-36. But the Islanders came back to their senses and notched a 26-6 triumph in the third set to grab the lead, 62-57.
The fourth set was a seesaw battle, as No-Mercy was still determined to boot out the Islanders.
The third set was tied last at 12-all, until a 12-2 scoring run allowed the Islanders to pull away. The Islanders then served for the game point, but the ball went off the backline.
No-Mercy scored another point to cut the lead to eight, 15-23, before the Islanders got the ball back on a No-Mercy error. The Islanders served, again, and this time they converted an ace to end No-Mercy’s upset bid.
Mike Olaitiman led the Islanders with 10 points on three xunks and two kees.
Typhoon Saito paced No-Mercy after also scoring 10 points. He had four aces and a xunk.
“Gorilla Games” will resume next Saturday and Rocball creator James Feger is encouraging interesting teams to challenge the Islanders.
