3 local MMA fighters off to Pacific Xtreme 17
Three local mixed martial arts fighters are set to see action in Guam this Friday in the Pacific Xtreme Combat 17: Fearless at the University of Guam Fieldhouse.
Trench Tech’s Giovanni “Palaxi” Sablan and Fasi “Quickdraw” Jesse will be joined by Marianas Elite’s Derrick “El Peligro” Rangamar in the Saipan contingent.
Sablan, who holds an impressive 14-win, 4-loss record will be going up against one of Guam’s rookie sensations, 18-year-old Robert Wusstig from Team Underworld Extreme, in the 145-lb. class.
Jesse has a 3-0 record in MMA. He will be taking on Underworld Extreme’s Eric “E-Dog” Santos, who also sports a record of 3-0 in the 155-lb. class.
Santos was the gold medalist in the Marianas Open Grappling Championships held in Guam last month.
Rangamar, also known by the moniker Pinchi, will be fighting a competitor from Japan in the 140-lb. division.
“These island warriors were chosen to represent the CNMI against fighters from Guam and Japan by earning their ‘Rites to Pass’ from their previous outstanding performances in Trench Warz and Rites of Passage held late last year and early this year,” said Cuki Alvarez, president and promoter of Trench Tech.
Alvarez said Trench Tech is glad and honored to be able to give these fighting islanders a chance to prove themselves in prestigious events such as the PXC.
He said this could be attributed to the staging of MMA events like the Rites of Passage and Trench Warz.
“It is to gear up these young up-and-coming MMA athletes for bigger events. We are the link to the Pacific Xtreme Combat and we are happy to continue helping these MMA fighters take their talent to the next level of MMA competition,” Alvarez said. “Trench Tech would like to wish our native sons the best of luck. They will be great ambassadors to our island in their respective matches.”
Meanwhile, the next Trench Warz event is set on May 23 at the Saipan World Resort and is dubbed Rites Of Passage 7: Fists of Fury. It will be held at the Taga Hall Ballroom with 15 MMA bouts featuring young up-and-coming fighters battling for supremacy in the octagon cage.
