Human bones were found in Marpi yesterday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS acting spokesperson Jason Tarkong said he received information that DPS detectives responded to the Marpi area after receiving report of recovered human remains.

“Upon their arrival it looks like it was recovered human bones from the World War II era,” Tarkong said.

Tarkong said his information is still preliminary and that he should get more details by today, Thursday.

In other police news, the DPS spokesperson said two of three suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing a purse from a shop in Chalan Kanoa Tuesday night.

Tarkong said preliminary report indicated that a woman lost a purse that she had placed on a table in a shop and later saw a boy running away from the establishment.

The victim chased the boy, but lost him in Chalan Kanoa village. Another male person was seen running with the boy.

Tarkong said police officers later arrested one male and one female.

“The preliminary police report is incomplete and I am in the process of trying to get all the information together,” Tarkong said.

The two suspects are expected to be taken to the Superior Court today, Thursday, for a bail hearing.
