Police arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly beating up his wife after she refused to have sex with him at their residence in Upper Miha last Friday.

Jesus Riak Jones was apprehended after a police officer spotted him hiding behind banana trees near his house that same day.

Jones was detained for assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the victim suffered bruises and slight swelling on the left cheek.

Tarkong said that, according to the wife, she and their children were sleeping in the bedroom when Jones arrived and woke up the children, telling them to sleep in the living room.

When the wife refused to have sex because she was not in the mood, the defendant allegedly got angry and grabbed her foot and twisted it.

During the struggle, Jones allegedly punched his wife in the face and threw a fan at her.

Jones grabbed a machete and threatened his wife with it. As the children were looking, the defendant put down the machete and punched the closet doors.

Police were called, prompting Jones to run away.

As a police officer was interviewing the victim, the neighbors’ dogs started barking.

The officer then saw Jones hiding behind some banana trees, according to Tarkong.

In other police’s news, a man and a male juvenile allegedly assaulted some teenage members of a basketball team at a party in one of the rooms at Aquarius Hotel in Chalan Kanoa early Saturday morning.

Tarkong said the suspects have already been identified but have not been arrested yet.

One victim was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center for a black eye and bruising to the face.

Tarkong said preliminary investigation showed that one suspect walked into the room during the party and started slapping everyone.

The fight happened when one teenager tried to defend himself. As the teenager’s cousin tried to stop the fight, the other suspect punched him several times.

The cousins ran away, but the two suspects caught them by the elevator door where they beat them up again. When the elevator opened, the victims managed to escape.
