Shell’s Sablan tops Majors in batting
Team Shell’s Phillip Sablan is currently leading the batting category in the Major Division of the 2009 Saipan Little League Baseball.
Sablan currently has gone 7-for-10 at bat for an average of .700, based on nine or more at-bats as of March 8.
But Team Shell is carrying a 2-2 win-loss record in the 14-team field division after losing their last two games to As Matuis Twins, 5-11, on Feb. 28 and at the hands of the Kagman Little Lions, 8-11, on March 8.
Shell actually won its first two assignments, 11-8 over Century Athletics last Feb. 16 and 11-1 against IT&E last Feb. 22.
Roy Tudela of Tanapag Braves is running second with an average of .667 after hitting 6-for-9, while Jets’ Jose Lizama Jr. has gone 8-for-13 for a .615 average, good for third.
Completing the Top 5 are Jets’ Franko Nakamura (6-for 11 for .545) and Twins’ Darion Jones (7-for-13, .538).
The other players in the Top 13 are Justin Santos of Little Lions (.533), Mathew Sablan of JPO Enforcers (.500), Logan Martin of Team Shell (.500), Raymond Saralu of Hustlers (.500), Frankie Lieto of Tanapag Braves (.500), Jonathan Villagomez of the Dragons (.500), Ian Norita of Little Falcons (.500), Jonathan Cabrera of the Dragons (.462) and Roke Tenorio of Twins (.455).
Santos is leading in runs scored with 10 as he also joins 10 players with two doubles each that includes Khoby Kaipat (Hustlers), Lizama Jr., Nakamura, Marciliano Castro (A’s), Cabrera, Mathew Sablan, Paul Celis (Shell), Phillip Sablan and Logan Martin.
In triples, six players have two each—Celis, Villagomez, Saralu, M.J. Sakisat (Twins), Caleb Takao (Survivors), and Lizama Jr.
Jonathan Cabrera posted three homeruns for the Dragons, Lizama made two, and the Twins’ Alex Litulumar has one.
Lizama is the current leader in RBIs with 10, while Cabrera recoded seven so far.
In pitching, Ol’Aces’ Jeremy Lizama is on top with an ERA of 0.36 with one error after 16.2 innings. Cabrera has 0.55 with an error in 11 innings.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Kaipat (0.64), Saralu (0.67), Lizama (0.72), Takao (1.00), Keene Guerrero of Red Sox (1.57), M.J. Aldan of Little Falcons (1.76), Justin Reyes of the Enforcers (2.43) and Sakisat (4.07).
Jeremy Lizama piled 38 strikeouts to stay on top of the list, Guerrero knocked down 28, and Cabrera is running third with 26.
The others in the list are Reyes (25), Aldan (22), Nathan Camacho of the Dragons (20), Takao (19), Lizama Jr. (18), Sakisat (14), Perry Celis of Shell (13), and Jones (13).
