Two take lead in Bud Cup statistical race

The ongoing 2008-2009 BANMI/Budweiser Basketball League has two new leaders in the statistical race.

The Runnin’ Rebels’ Syl Teregeyo dislodged Ol’Aces’ Gabriel White from the top spot in the rebounds department with the former collaring 94 boards in 10 games. White dropped to fourth with his 77.

In second place is IT&E’s Kae Bernardo with 81, while Docomo’s Christopher Paul is in third with 78. Completing the Top 5 was Docomo’s Kelvin Fitial (75), while rounding off the Top 10 were the Runnin’ Rebels’ Ben Lisua (66), Quichocho’s Larry Palero (63), Docomo’ James Villacrusis (58), IT&E’s Gyles Ruluked (56), and Quichocho’s Bart Demapan (54).

The assists department also has a new leader in IT&E’s Andres “Jun” Estolas Jr., who had 50 feeds to edge former leader Jose Tumaquip (47) of the Runnin’ Rebels. Jose dropped to third, as his younger brother, Jomary, climbed to second with 49 assists.

Making it to the Top 10 were IT&E’s Wowie Abuel (40), Docomo’s Joe Villacrusis (39), Quichocho’s Bonbon Cadagat (36), Docomo’s David Palacios 935), Diamond’s Elmer Esdrelon (30), the Ol’Aces’ Elias Rangamar (28), and Quichocho’s Jun Pantaleon (28).

Ol’Aces gunner Freddie Pelisamen and Joemary Tumaquip of the CNMI Nationals are still on top of the scoring and steals categories, respectively.

In 10 games, Pelisamen scored 324 points to keep his lead against second placer Cadagat (228). In third place is the Nationals’ Pete Iguel (221), followed by Bernardo (174), the Runnin’ Rebels’ Jesus Iguel (156) and Jose Tumaquip (155), Quichocho’s Sonny Lerio (150), Estolas (147), the National’s Marvin Rabauliman (142), and Esdrelon (141).

Jomary has recorded 44 steals, five more than Jesus Iguel’s 39. In third place is the Runnin’ Rebels’ Denard Norita (35), followed by Pete Iguel (33), Quichocho’s Leo Itaas (31), Rabauliman (29), Esdrelon (27), White (24), Jose Tumaquip (24), and IT&E’s Peter Mendiola (22).
