Navy Hill caging starts playoffs tomorrow
The playoff round in the 2009 Navy Hill Friendship Basketball League will begin tomorrow at the Garapan Basketball Court.
Nine teams made it to the next round with Dollar Days gaining a bye after taking the pennant. Dollar Days finished the single-round robin regular season with a 10-1 record.
In second place was Docomo (9-2), followed by KFC/Taco Bell (8-3), Rollers (8-3), Inchcape (7-4), MBI (6-5), Athlete’s Foot (6-5), Uncle Ben (5-6), and IT&E (4-7). Booted out of the tournament were the San Antonio Shooters (2-9), 670 Rollers (1-10), and Mobil (1-10).
Format for the first two rounds of the playoffs is single elimination. The pairings are Docomo vs. IT&E; KFC/Taco Bell vs. Uncle Ben; Rollers vs. Athlete’s Foot; and Inchcape vs. MBI.
Docomo and IT&E will collide in Game 1 of the playoffs tomorrow at 7pm.
Docomo gained the second seeding after winning against MBI in the last game in the regular season on March 5, 37-27. The Docomo-MBI tiff was originally set for Feb. 19, but was suspended in the first quarter due to rain. The game was rained-out, again, last week with Docomo ahead, 37-27, and with 1:55 left in the second quarter. Both teams agreed not to continue the match and handed the win to Docomo.
After the first playoff game between Docomo and IT&E, Inchcape will meet MBI in Game 2 at 8:30pm.
Four teams will advance to second round, then only two teams are eligible to join Dollar Days in the next phase of the league. The first two among three remaining squads to win two games will then move into the finals, which will be a best-of-three affair.
