Rock Steady, Ford Rangers win over rivals
The top two teams last year routed separate opponents this week in the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
Defending champion Rock Steady clinched its third win in a row by beating the Masters, 9-3, Monday night.
Vince Sablan struck out 10 batters and allowed nine hits and gave up three runs after eight and half innings that allowed Rock Steady to keep its clean 3-0 win-loss record, halfway through the first round of the regular season.
Rock Steady’s previous victories were against Ford Rangers, 6-5, on opening day and Young Guns, 10-5, on Feb. 27.
Ben Guerrero scored two runs in the third and seventh and Julian Tenerio in the second and sixth, while six other Rock Steady players added a run each as the team completely dominated the Masters.
John Reyes jump-started the win with a run in the bottom of the first. Martin Pangelinan added one more in the second, while Oliver Schermidal, Manny Sablan, and Byron Kaipat tucked in three more in the sixth and seventh innings.
Scoring for the Masters were Jess Muna in the top of second, Pepe Tenorio in the third, and Mike Muna in the ninth.
On Wednesday night, last year’s runner-up Ford Rangers shattered D-9ers, 13-3, in seven complete innings.
It was Ford Rangers’ second straight win, tying the D-9ers in second place at 2-1.
The Tanapag Falcons and Masters were playing as of presstime last night.
Monday’s games will then pit the Young Guns against Ford Rangers.
