Iguel, Ol’Aces beat Hustlers, 11-1
Juan Iguel retired 15 batters in a row as Ol’Aces defeated the Hustlers, 11-1, on Thursday night in the Big League Division of the 2009 SLLBA at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
Iguel struck out three, allowed only one hit, and gave up a run in six complete innings.
Marvin Kaipat reached home plate on a fielding error in the bottom of sixth but Iguel didn’t allow anymore Hustlers player to reach first base after that.
With the win, Ol’Aces cornered its second win in three outings that created a four-way logjam on top of the team standings.
The other three teams with 2-1 win-loss slates are the Tanapag Falcons, Team Aztecs, and D-9ers.
Ol’Aces won its first game against IT&E, 6-5, last Feb. 19 but bowed to D-9ers, 1-2, last March 3.
Meanwhile, the loss was the Hustlers’ second straight defeat.
Hustlers opened up their campaign with a 3-1 decision over the Tanapag Falcons last Feb. 17, but lost to Team Aztecs, 5-8, last March 5.
The Falcons posted a back-to-back wins on Tuesday against IT&E, the only team so far without a win in the young season.
The next game in the Big League Division will be between the Falcons and Team Aztecs this coming Tuesday, March 17.
Games in the Junior League will resume today with the Patriots pitted against the Red Sox at 9am. Ol’Aces, for its part, take on the Fielders at 1pm.
The Patriots won over the Red Sox, 13-4, in their first encounter last Feb. 16, while Ol’Aces defeated the Fielders, 29-13.
Games Sunday will have Kagman Lion Heart battling the Patriots at 9am, while the Red Sox will meet the Fielders at 1pm.
The Patriots won over Lion Heart, 13-4, last March 1, while the Red Sox defeated the Fielders, 10-0, last March 7.
In the Senior League, Kagman Lion King will face the Fielders at 11am today, while the Jets will test the mettle of Ol’Aces at 3pm. Games tomorrow will have D-9ers squaring off against Jets at 11am and the Fielders taking on Ol’Aces at 3pm.
In the Major Division, Tanapag Little Falcons and Ol’Aces will meet at Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Ballpark at 9am today.
It will be followed by the Dragons-Jets game at 11am, JPO Enforcers-Survivors at 1pm, and Shell-Tanpag Braves at 3pm.
