Islanders still reign in ‘Gorilla Games’
The Islanders foiled the Seven Kings bid to rule the Gorilla Games” in the World Organized Rocball Community League Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Islanders notched a 93-71 juiced out win, to rule the “Gorilla Games” for the third straight time.
“Gorilla Games” kicked off first week of January with 2008-2009 Rocball league champion Ghasias Brothers eking out a 108-84 victory over first challenger Okies in double overtime.
But the Brothers lost their title defense bid to Evenflow, which posted a 109-101 overtime win. Evenflow eventually bowed to the Islanders last month, 81-98.
The Islanders survived their first challenger, beating the Soul Rebels in straight sets, 100-65.
Last Saturday, a new team—Seven Kings—attempted to dethrone the Islanders and failed, as Freddie Pelisamen continued to work wonders for the latter.
Pelisamen was the game’s heavy hitter, scoring 14 points on five kees, one ace, and one xunk.
The Islanders took the opening set by 12 points, 26-14, but had a tougher time in the second set before nailing a 27-21 victory.
In the third set, the Islanders won by double digits, again, 25-15, and completed a sweep with a close 25-21 triumph in the fourth set. Eighteen aces, 16 kees, seven xunks, one jam, and one goal were scored in the game.
“Gorilla Games” will resume next Saturday and rocball creator James Feger is encouraging interesting teams to challenge the defending champion.
The winning team in the biweekly “Gorilla Games” takes a $50 cash prize. The loser gets to rest for a month before returning to action.
