Man who sold ‘ice’ near school gets a year in prison
The federal court sentenced yesterday to one year and one day in prison a man who was caught selling methamphetamine or “ice” near a school on Tinian.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson gave Ying Min Jin credit for the time he has already served in jail.
Upon release from prison, Jin, a Chinese national, will be placed on six years of supervised release, Munson said. During the probationary period, Jin will be required to perform 100 hours of community service.
He will then be delivered to immigration officials for deportation.
Munson ordered Jin to pay a $100 special assessment fee immediately after the sentencing.
Jin was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
Jin signed a plea agreement with the U.S. government. He pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of a controlled substance.
A Drug Enforcement Administration agent stated in his report that on Aug. 27, 2008, a “confidential source” was able to purchase $140 worth of “ice” from Jin inside a poker arcade on Tinian.
The officers recovered 2. 6 grams of “ice” from Jin’s wallet and front pants pocket.
The poker arcade is located within 1,000 feet of the Tinian Grace Christian Academy, according to assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O’Malley.
At the sentencing, O’Malley recommended 12 months and one day imprisonment for Jin.
