Wellness tops Monday Night League
Pacific Wellness Center emerged champion in the 7th season of the Philippine Bowling Association-Budweiser Monday Night League.
Wellness closed out the season last Feb. 9, with a win-loss record of 42-30 and the top place allowed the team to pocket $375.
The awards ceremony was held last Monday, March 2, during the opening round of the league’s 8th season at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Anchored by Ferdee Generoso, Lala Taitano, Tony Verdaguer, Orly Ebuen, Yho Villavicencio, Paul Pangelinan, and Jesus Sugue, Wellness also managed to snatch two second place finishes in the special team awards.
In the individual awards, Ebuen was adjudged as the most improved player in the men’s category after upping his average to 12.83 pinfalls.
Zimbuka/Mabuang Ko finished second overall with 41 wins and 31 losses, same as third placer Team Familia.
Zimbuka earned $260 for the runner-up finish.
One of its players, Carol McKenzie, was the most improved player in the women’s division after a 17-pin hike on her average.
The other members of Zimbuka/Mabuang Ko are Raphael Zapanta, Rose Abejo, Mhel Regis, Marion McKenzie, Thom McKenzie, May-Anne McKenzie, and Jun Abejo.
Team Familia pocketed $200 for its third place finish. The team is led by Lynn Teregeyo, who snatched two individual awards.
She was first in the ladies with high series scratch with her 591 pins and first in high average (172.56 pins).
Her teammates include Dennis Teregeyo, Roman Tudela, Ralph Torres, Sr., Israel De Leon, Albert Palacios, Judy Torres, and Lito Teodoro.
Mix Breed was fourth with its 40-32 win-loss mark and got $100, while Bicol Express completed the Top 5 with its 39-33 record, good for a prize money of $50.
Super Fafa failed to make it to the Magic Five but it topped all the special team awards.
The team was first in high game scratch with 866 pins for $40. Host SBC was second with 849 for $30.
Super Fafa was also first in high game with handicap (2,482) for $45, while Wellness was second (2,293) for $35.
In the high series with handicap, Super Fafa had 2,615 for $45, while Wellness finished behind with 2,596 for $35.
Edward Baluyan and Robert Talavera both of Super Fafa took the one-two position in men’s high game scratch with 275 and 268 pins, respectively, while Gigi Zapanta was first in the ladies with 219.
Baluyan also topped the high game with handicap (297), Boy Corbito of J’s Restaurant placed second (288), while Zapanta was on top again in the ladies (257).
Talavera came first in the high series scratch for men with 726, while Alex Cacdac of SBC was second with 657.
Talavera likewise led the high series with handicap with his 741, Raul Dumapit of Super Fafa was second with his 721, and Zapanta was first in the ladies with her 699.
In high average, Talavera prevailed with his 200.72 average.
