D’9ers edge Ol’Aces in Big League
San Roque D’9ers sustained its defensive stance in the stretch to score a 2-1 win over Ol’Aces in the Big League Division Tuesday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
The win was D’9ers second in three starts as they dealt Ol’Aces its first defeat in two games.
D’9ers opened their title campaign with a 8-7 decision against Team Aztecs last Feb. 21, but lost to defending champion Tanapag Falcons, 1-4, last Feb. 26.
Ol’Aces failed to duplicate their 6-5 victory over IT&E last Feb. 19.
Outfielder Anthony Castro scored the D’9ers first run in the bottom of the third inning on a single by catcher Elliot Tenorio, while Simeon Nepaial scored for Ol’Aces via passed ball to equalize the score at 1-1.
Then shortstop David Camacho tripled in the sixth on the way to scoring the decisive run on a passed ball.
The lone game today will be between the second-running Hustlers and Team Aztecs (1-1), who are currently in a three-way logjam with Ol’Aces and Tanapag Falcons.
The Hustlers remained the only unbeaten team in the Big League Division following their 3-1 victory over the defending champion Falcons last Feb. 17.
In the Juniors Division, the Patriots posted back-to-back wins on Sunday night by overpowering defending champion Kagman Lion Heart, 13-4.
Jared Sablan scored three runs, Franklin Sablan, Henry Rabauliman, Alan Aguon, and Carlos Rabauliman made two each, while Brian Camacho and Tyler Kaipat added one each.
The Patriots, who just graduated from the Major Division after winning the title three years in a row, widened their lead to 4-0, while Lion Heart absorbed their second defeat in four games.
Lion Heart lost to the Red Sox, 5-7, last Feb. 21 and they still have to play Ol’Aces for their postponed game that ended at 5-5 during the opening day of the season last Feb. 15.
The Patriots defeated the Red Sox, 13-4, last Feb. 16, then feasted on the D’9ers, 18-5, last Feb. 21. They then beat the Fielders, 11-1, last Feb. 22.
They will meet Ol’Aces on March 7 to complete their first round assignment.
