Keener lauds SLLB on its 37th year
The president and chief executive officer of the Little League-International extended his congratulatory message to the Saipan Little League Baseball on the occasion of its 37th year anniversary.
In a letter, Stephen D. Keener lauded the efforts of the players and volunteers for keeping Little League’s traditions alive in the CNMI.
Keener noted that from its humble its beginnings Little League has grown to be more than a baseball program.
He said Little League has proven that it is more than just competition but is also a leadership training program, family entertainment activity, and community development organization all rolled into one.
He said the league has been blessed with an incredible corps of volunteers working at the local level: board members, coaches, umpires, concession stand workers, grounds crew—the people who put the Little League program into action.
Keener said SLLB’s counterparts in thousands of communities worldwide is the reason Little League is the world’s largest and most respected youth sports program.
“I have little doubt that you have seen the fruits of your labors, the fun of being at the games, the thrill of seeing kids play and learn, the pride of knowing your community has come together to provide its children with a healthy, fun activity,” noted Keener.
SLLB opened its 2009 season last Feb. 15 with a total of 31 teams—14 in the Major Division, six in the Juniors, five in Seniors, and six in the Big League.
Games are played on weekends at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios and Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan ballfields.
“It is my sincere hope that your memories and life lessons learned as children in the CNMI Little League have served you well as adults. May all who have been shaped by your commitment and legacy, in turn serve others so that the impact continues without end” Keener said.
