Freedom Air and Customs fashioned out contrasting victories against their respective rivals in the two make-up games of the 2009 Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League on Tuesday at the Capital Hill Ball Park.

Freedom Air needed only five and a half innings in its easy 14-1 victory against the league’s favorite whipping boys from Hopwood to seize solo second place with an 11-3 win-loss record behind pacesetting DCCA (16-0).

The loss was Hopwood’s 13th in as many games.

Freedom Air batters issued 11 of their 17 hits right at the bottom of the first inning where they went 14 times at bat and scored 11 runs, including the first of two home runs by first baseman Roy Celis.

Celis also delivered another homer in the fourth, while pitcher Roque Camacho made one earlier in the second.

Freedom Air finished with a total of 13 RBIs, four of them from Celis.

Centerfielder Alex Sablan scored the lone run for Hopwood at the top of fourth on a RBI single by leftfielder John Pialur.

In an interesting match up, Customs rallied past Commonwealth Health Center and won in the extra inning, 21-20.

Customs erased a 7-13 deficit after six full innings, as it exploded with nine runs at the top of seventh for a 16-13 lead.

CHC forced the game into extra inning with three runs at the bottom seventh.

Customs then proved steadier as five of its players reached home plate at the top of eighth, while CHC managed only four in the same frame.

Customs pitcher J.J. Salas finished the game when he forced CHC’s Vince Rabauliman to fly out to the waiting Ton Camacho on leftfield.

Customs piled up a total of 21 RBIs, three from Ton Iguel and Jason Lizama, two each from Ton Camacho, Henry Utulumar, J.P. Sablan, Jack Cepeda, Dave Ada, and Archie Kaipat, and one each from Ray Renguul, J.J. Salas, and Rod Aldan.

John Duenas and Tom Diaz led CHC’s offense with four RBIs each.

Diaz hit 4-for-5, including three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Duenas, meanwhile, was 3-for-5 and joined six other teammates with two runs scored.
