With its massive buildup for the recently started 2009 Saipan Major League, D’9ers may pull out a number of surprises this season.

D’9ers opened up its campaign on a bright note last Monday night by overpowering the Tanapag Falcons, 13-3, which was erroneously reported as a Falcons win over the D’9ers.

D’9ers team manager Eliseo “Chel” Tenorio said their first win was so important for the team because it definitely boosted his players’ morale especially the new and younger recruits.

“It’s important too because I am looking at other teams that are also strong,” said Tenorio.

With the win, D’9ers joined defending champion Rock Steady in the early lead following the latter’s scary 6-5 victory over the Ford Rangers on Feb. 20.

Last year, D’9ers placed fourth but with several addition from the Senior and Big leagues, Tenorio said the team is looking good.

“We will have a combination of veterans and rookies,” he said.

The returnees include Bob Lizama, Juan Acosta, Ben Mesa, Jeff Tenorio, Jonathan Tenorio, and Greg Camacho.

They also acquired the services of pitcher Mel Sakisat and all-star catcher Robert Bansil from the Rangers.

The recruits from the Saipan Little League are Eric Tenorio, Chad Atalig, E.J. Tenorio, and Wally Emul Jr.

They have also added Northern Yankee all-around player Patrick Camacho.

“I am going to rely on our pitching,” said Tenorio, referring to the experienced hurlers in Sakisat and Paul Camacho.

D’9ers established an 11-1 lead after four full innings with Paul Camacho at the mound on the way to score the lopsided win over the Falcons.
