Gualo Rai tops Inchcape in Navy Hill caging
Gualo Rai saved the best for last, outscoring Inchcape in the fourth quarter en route to a 91-85 come-from-behind win at the start of the Masters division of the 2009 Navy Hill Friendship Basketball League Tuesday night at the Garapan Basketball Court.
Gualo Rai outgunned Inchcape in the fourth period, 29-18, to turn a 62-65 deficit in the third quarter to an eight-point win.
Sonny Ranola and Efren Lansang joined forces in leading Gualo Rai’s rally in the fourth period firing 11 and nine points, respectively.
The match was tied last at 72-all midway in the fourth canto when Ranola and Lansang caught fire in the 19-11 windup.
Lansang finished with a game-high 31 points, while Ranola chipped in 29 points.
Roy Alcantara and Arman Anasan also contributed double-figure scoring. drilling 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Dante Olivos paced Inchcape with 31 points. He and Amor Casabuena tallied 10 markers apiece in the first perood, giving Inchcape a 23-19 lead.
Inchcape remained on top at halftime, 42-37, as Boy Garcia found his mark in the second period scoring eight of his 14 points in that canto.
In the third quarter, Olivos and Casabuena worked things out for Inchcape, anew, combining for 19 points. The duo traded baskets with Gualo Rai’s Lansang and Ranola, who also combined for 19 markers in the third period.
Olivos and Casabuena slowed down a bit in the final quarter, but not Ranola and Lansang, whose consecutive baskets in the payoff period lifted Gualo Rai to a win.
Meanwhile, action in the open division of the Navy Hill caging will continue tonight.
Docomo and Dollar Days are leading the 12-team league with identical 8-1 records.
The Rollers are in second place with a 7-1 slate, followed by KFC/Taco Bell (5-3), Uncle Ben (5-3), MBI (4-3), Inchcape (4-3), IT&E (4-6), San Antonio (2-70, 670 Rollers (1-10), and Mobil (1-10).
