Dumapit leads winners of Lion’s Club roll-off

Raul Dumapit ran away with the Class A championship of the Saipan Filipino-American Lions Club Classified Bowling Tournament held over the weekend at the Saipan Bowling Center.

Bernard Paraiso, meanwhile, topped Class B of the handicap-computed tournament with Marion McKenzie snatching the championship in Class C.

Dumapit won Class A by beating Robert Talavera in the championship of the stepladder finals, 226-198. Talavera earlier advanced to the finals against veteran kegler Kitz Barja, 176-158

Dumapit topped the three-game roll-off after totaling 741 pinfalls built around handicap-aided scores of 248, 268, and 225 for an average of 247.

Barja averaged 227 finished second in the eliminations with a total of 682 (218, 281, 183), while Talavera was third place with an average of 220 after coming up with rounds of 220, 220, and 219 for a total of 659.

Paraiso, for his part, out-dueled Ronald Epan in the championship of the Class B finals by rolling a 231 against Epan’s 169. Epan earned the right to face Paraiso in the finals after displacing Ron Cal, 207-175.

Paraiso earlier finished as the No. 1 seed in the Class B roll-off after he averaged 222 pins built around scores of 192, 215, and 260 for a total of 667.

Finishing four pins shy was Epan after he averaged 221 with his total of 663 (174, 218, 271).

Cal rounded out the Top 3 after she tattooed 641 pins in the three-game roll-off (200, 227, 214) for an average of 214.

In Class C, youth bowler McKenzie upset Gloria Omechelang in the finals by the slimmest of margins, 223-220.

McKenzie overcame long odds to win the division. She first beat Joven Abris in the semis, 195-174, to advance to the finals.

Omechelang ruled the three-game roll-off by firing 690 pinfalls (249, 240, 241) for a handicap-aided average of 230.

Abris, who averaged 229, was good for second with a three-round haul of 688 (223, 226, 239), while McKenzie finished an unassuming third with his total of 671 (180, 254, 237).
